ADVOCACY CALENDAR
Advocacy is telling your story every day...
Yes, there are special "advocacy days" throughout the year when you are asked to contact your legislators, but advocacy works best when we are able to share the importance of museums on a regular basis. The MAA Advocacy Committee has created this month-by-month Advocacy Calendar to assist Arizona museums tell their stories all year long.

Make sure that all of your U.S. and Arizona legislators and local officials current contact information is on your mailing list. |
February |
Send your legislators a Valentine telling what to love about your museum. |
March |
Create or review your Elevator speech and share it with your Board members, staff and volunteers |
April |
Let your elected officials (federal, state, local) know about any government funding your museums receives, directly or indirectly, and how it is used/critical to your mission |
May |
Let your elected officials know it’s Museum Week by mailing them a card from your museum shop (or picture of your museum through social media) |
June |
Send your elected officials an update telling them what happened in your museum in the first half of the year, including new exhibits, special programs, fundraising events and visitation numbers. |
July |
Set up a meeting with your US legislators at their home office during their August recess |
August |
Visit your US legislator in their home office |
September |
Celebrate Arts in Education Week by sending your US and Az legislators an email about your educational programs |
October |
Educate candidates about museums in advance of November municipal elections. |
November |
Encourage your Board, staff, volunteers and members to vote. Congratulate your newly elected (and re-elected) officials and make sure they are ALL on your mailing lists. |
December |
Thank your legislators for their work this year with a holiday card |
