Museum Collaborations: Synergies at Work

Whether it is reaching new audiences and underserved communities, caring for and interpreting the collections, or to building institutional capacity, museums continue to forge partnerships.

Collaborations can occur within an organization between volunteers, staff, and board members, as well as across departments, between educators, curators, conservators, registrars, and administrators.

Collaborations also occur outside the museum with individuals, organizations, and communities, locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Identifying the right partner(s), creating a shared vision, defining and sustaining a relationship, and a willingness to share resources such as skills and knowledge is no easy task. Each partner must bring to the dialog their commitment to the process and a desire to explore new possibilities.

So, why do museums continue to collaborate? 

Keynote presenter Nik Honeysett, CEO of the Balboa Park Online Collaborative, will explore the changing face of collaboration in the 21st century.
